The pilsen rose
Client: Air BNB Host.
Location: Pilsen Neighborhood, Chicago, IL
Date: July-August 2019
Installation Specs: Chicago neighborhood AirBNB featuring 1 bedroom and 1 bathroom , second floor walk up, and an outdoor garden. 2 wall murals and designs to include interactive art (kitchen) and ecologically friendly components (starting a native garden, recycled/up-cycled materials). 2 months of planning and collaboration. 7 days to install.
Client Requests: Maia was asked to incorporate a vintage bohemian feel. Inspiration was to be drawn from the surrounding neighborhood of Pilsen. The design was intended to be interactive for AirBNB guests’ experience living in the space. The space was intended to exist in harmony with the nature of the area.
Notable Features:
Medicine Art Altar: Homage to culture of Pilsen neighborhood, which incorporates various Bohemian and Mexican influences. Creates a “grotto” in which guest can leave trinkets and remembrances from their trips to the area.
Ecologically friendly: All furniture and decor (except linens and pillows) comprised of recycled, reused, up-cycled materials.
Garden: Features perennial plants native to the Chicago area (Black-Eyed Susans, local grasses) amidst community-supportive areas (bike racks, seating, etc).
Medicine: Earth, culture, art, sustainability.
