Location: Casa Del Barco, Chesterfield Town Center, VA.

Date: January 2019 - September 2019.

Client Requests: One part of the installation to be interactive and/or “instagram-able.” Must be seen from the outside. Easy to clean.

Installation Specs: 3 steel and fabric marigolds ranging from 12 ft - 17 ft long and 3 ft - 7 ft wide. Suspended blossom facing down, from ceiling. Largest marigold to be interactive. Must meet fire-proof standards for indoor installations.

Notable Features:

  • Largest flower boasts a 6 foot wide and tall interactive blossom interior, half a story up, surround by glass railings. with different views of the restaurant spaces.

  • Once inside the blossom, participants will find themselves surrounded by over 300 orange hand made maracas that can be spun. This concept honors the maracas that are used often during the Dios De Los Muertos celebration to call in the ancestors or Antepesados.

  • Flowers modeled after the Maravilla, Marigold, or Flores Des Antepasados, the flower traditionally used during Dios De Los Muertos celebration in Mexico.

  • Steel “skeleton” hand made by metal artist and fabricator Bruin Design.

  • Lead artist and designer for this installation was Britta Bielak of Britta Bielak Art and Design.

  • Maia collaborated on the design concepts, physical creation and installation.

  • 3 different flowers representing various stages of growth
